The OrthoWorx Diversity Council is sponsoring a traveling cultural exhibit, featuring artwork created by children in the community and cultural artifacts from around the world.
The cultural artifacts are on loan from OrthoWorx Diversity Council members. The Warsaw Community Public Library (WCPL) is hosting the exhibit through August 2013. “The display was created to introduce people to items they may never have seen before and educate them about the respective cultures,” states Gennie Brissette-Tipton, Communications Specialist, OrthoWorx.
The cultural exhibit features unique artwork created by children at the OrthoWorx Diversity Booth at WCDC Artober First Friday event last year. With the help of Diversity Council members and WCPL’s Genealogy Club, children learned the origin of their surname. Then, they traced their hands on construction paper, printed their names and countries of origin and cut it out to adhere to a collective poster/wreath. The exhibit also features several cultural items, ranging from foreign currency and traditional clothing to Korean wedding ducks and a model of the Taj Mahal built out of mini-blocks. A brief description, including the country of origin, accompanies each piece in the exhibit.
In addition to being featured at WCPL, the cultural exhibit is slated for display throughout Warsaw Community Schools (WCS). The exhibit will start in elementary schools and finish at the Gateway Center. The schedule of the WCS tour follows:
