October 2011: OrthoWorx e-Newsletter
Ivy Tech Community College Manufacturing Skills and/or CNC Machine Operator Graduate Survey respondents are helping to form curriculum for future students. Results of the OrthoWorx commissioned survey helped to identify and confirm perceived gaps in the existing curriculum compared to the needs of the evolving orthopedic industry.
Of particular note is the stated need for more math skills for workforce development. This mirrors the call for an increase in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) for K-12 education.
“We look forward to continuing to help address gaps by developing a more qualified workforce for the orthopedic industry. The Ivy Tech Community College Orthopedic and Advanced Manufacturing Training Center (OAMTC) is one way to achieve this,” states Tim Meyer, Chair, OrthoWorx Advanced Manufacturing Committee.
The OrthoWorx Advanced Manufacturing Committee, Ivy Tech Community College leadership and the OrthoWorx Talent & Workforce Development Committee are meeting this month to discuss progress to date, including this survey, and incorporation into the Orthopedic and Advanced Manufacturing Curriculum at Ivy Tech Community College. Stay tuned for updates, expected in early 2012.
