About Us

The Warsaw, Indiana, orthopedic device cluster is one of the most concentrated centers of medical device economic activity anywhere in the United States. The orthopedic industry continues to grow, driven by treating the underlying needs of musculoskeletal patients and improving people’s lives.

It started when Revra DePuy began his company in Warsaw in 1895. Thirty-two years later, a DePuy employee and area native J.O. Zimmer launched his own company. Another Warsaw company became the predecessor of Medtronic’s spinal business—the world leader in the spinal device category. By the time Biomet was created in 1977, the area was thriving with enterprises large and small.

Today, these companies are multi-billion dollar global enterprises, anchoring an industry cluster that represents 50% of the global orthopedic market for total joint replacements—making Warsaw, Indiana, the Orthopedic Capital of the World.®

OrthoWorx is a non-profit formed in 2009 with initial funding from the Lilly Endowment Inc. to preserve and extend our region’s legacy as the Orthopedic Capital.® Based in Warsaw, Indiana, we work with orthopedic industry members, academic partners and community leaders to capitalize on the resources and expertise across our region and in our industry to achieve common goals.

It is our mission to ensure that our industry and the communities that depend on its success thrive with social and economic benefits for generations to come.

Together, we accomplish this through three core initiatives: Talent Development, Talent Attraction, and Innovation.
