2013 is shaping up to be another busy and productive year for OrthoWorx.

With the success of several projects in 2012, we intend to continue and build upon current plans that support our key initiatives. Following is an article excerpt by Sheryl Conley, CEO, OrthoWorx, as published in Life Sciences Indiana January 31, 2013.

“The recent BioCrossroads annual report drove home the importance of the life sciences industry to the state of Indiana—approximately $50 billion in total value, more than 55,000 people employed in jobs that earn well above the average wage. In addition, the state’s nearly 2,000 life sciences companies are major exporters—Indiana ranks third in the nation in exports of life sciences products.

A perhaps surprising fact is that the medical device industry is the largest segment of the overall Indiana life sciences economy and the orthopedic industry is the largest segment within medical devices. Based largely in and around Warsaw in northern Indiana, the orthopedic industry employs nearly 7,000 Hoosier workers and represents a majority of the worldwide market share in key segments such as total knee and hip joint replacement.

The importance of the orthopedic medical device industry led to the formation of OrthoWorx in 2009, with generous initial funding from the Lilly Endowment. The BioCrossroads study that led to the founding of OrthoWorx defined several initiative areas judged to be critical to maintaining an environment that would support the global orthopedic industry and the citizens who depend on its continued vitality.”
