The OrthoWorx Diversity Committee and Kosciusko Community YMCA today announced the second installment of a new series open to the public focusing on diversity. The Diversity Discussion Series will hold its second event titled India: A Subcontinent of Many Cultures on Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the YMCA. This free event will feature brief educational presentations about India and its diverse nature, hands-on activities and Indian food samples. The public is invited to attend.

“The orthopedic companies that are located in and around Warsaw are global companies that recruit top talent from all over the world,” stated Gennie Brissette-Tipton, Manager, Communication & Projects, OrthoWorx. “There is actually a good-sized Indian community right here in our town, and many of those folks moved here to work at these companies. We want others in the community to get a chance to learn about India and its diverse culture. Education and sharing experiences help create that human connection between people. That sort of connection transforms our community to a more welcoming place for people from all over, which is very important to recruiting and retaining top talent for all kinds of organizations in our community.”

OrthoWorx and the YMCA are partnering with the Warsaw Indian Community (WIC), a local group of Indian people who are interested in sharing their culture with the residents of Warsaw and Kosciusko County, to provide the content for this “Diversity Discussions” installment. Representatives from the WIC will be conducting the presentations and audience participation activities.  They will be answering questions that were collected in advance through a drop box at the YMCA, as well as questions that come up onsite at the event.

“The Warsaw Indian Community is very excited to help out with this program,” stated Devendra Gorhe, a member of the group. “Our group has held events in the past to celebrate our country’s holidays, like Diwali and Holi, which have been open to the public. But we have not ever done anything like this. We hope there are many people in attendance, because we are looking forward to sharing a little bit about our culture with the residents of this community.”

India: A Subcontinent of Many Cultures is free and open to the public.  Presentations and activities are intended to be enjoyed by people of all ages. Children are welcome to attend. Attendees will also enjoy complimentary samples of different types of Indian food. The Kosciusko Community YMCA is located at 1305 Mariners Drive, Warsaw, Indiana.
