The OrthoWorx Diversity Committee and Kosciusko Community YMCA today announced the launch of a new series open to the public focusing on diversity. The Diversity Discussion Series will hold its first event titled Keeping the Faith: An Examination of Religions and Their Followers Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the YMCA. This free educational event will feature a panel discussion with representatives from the following faiths: Buddhism, Christianity, Hindu, Islam and Judaism. The public is invited to attend.

The OrthoWorx Diversity Committee, which is made up of a group of volunteers from OrthoWorx member organizations and other community stakeholders, has focused on creating and promoting already-existing, diversity-related programming for residents of Warsaw and Kosciusko County.

“The goal of OrthoWorx is to ensure that Warsaw remains The Orthopedic Capital of the World®,” stated Gennie Brissette-Tipton, Manager, Communication & Projects, OrthoWorx. “These companies are global in nature and are recruiting employees from all over the world and all walks of life.  It is of the utmost importance that we create a welcoming and accepting environment in our community in order to attract and retain top talent. We are particularly looking forward to this series, as in the past, the OrthoWorx Diversity Committee has primarily focused on engaging the younger generation, but we are now looking to expand our programming to offer educational opportunities for adults.”

The Diversity Discussion Series will be a periodic event hosted by the Kosciusko Community YMCA and will have a different topic each time. The mission of this collaborative effort states: Given the current state of the nation and world-at-large, which reflects polarized views about differing lifestyles, belief structures and ideas, the OrthoWorx Diversity Committee and Kosciusko Community YMCA strive to create a safe environment for the exchange of diversity-related topics. This series will educate members of the community on such topics, and promote inclusion and understanding of all people, with hopes to make our community a better place to live, work and play.

“We are excited to collaborate on the Diversity Discussion Series,” stated Matt Goebel, Director of Christian Emphasis, Kosciusko Community YMCA. “Our community needs to have opportunities such as these programs to educate people about diversity-related topics.  The Y is happy to host these events and encourages its members and others in the community to attend.”

Keeping the Faith: An Examination of Religions and Their Followers is free and open to the public.  There will be a moderated panel discussion followed by a question and answer session. Attendees will also enjoy a complimentary light meal.
